China's assistance continues, the UN Secretary General calls for an end to hate speech

2020-05-14

On May 10 , Philippine foreign minister Rochin and other officials attended the handover ceremony of emergency anti epidemic assistance provided by China at the Philippine foreign ministry. The assistance includes 100 respirators, 150000 nucleic acid detection reagents, 70000 medical protective clothing, 70000 N95 masks, 1.3 million medical surgical masks and 70000 medical goggles. Rochin thanked the Chinese government for further assistance and technical support, including assisting Philippine in purchasing and importing testing laboratories.

Not only the Philippines, but also China's assistance to Nepal and Thailand's army arrived on May 11 and 12. According to Hou Yanqi who is Chinese ambassador to Nepal, China has provided  assistance, technical support and volunteer medical teams to more than 100 countries.
In fact, since the #COVID-19 outbreak, China has provided extensive assistance to other countries while solving its own epidemic crisis. These assistance flows to long-term partners of China, but also Islamic countries such as Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Indonesia and Malaysia. These countries are not traditional "Comprehensive strategic partners " of the China. It seems that standards don’t base on race, religion, political inclination or even international relations.
The #COVID-19 affects people's health, employment, exposes the problems of public health system and governance. Although the so-called alt-right has been at the forefront of spreading anti-minority smears online, such as anti Jewish conspiracy theory, the stigmatization of immigrants and refugees as one of the sources of the virus, and the creation of scapegoats.
In a global appeal in which the UN chief called for international solidarity, Antonio Guterres lamented that "the pandemic continues to unleash a tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scare-mongering". He said "As we combat this pandemic, we have a duty to protect people, end stigma and prevent violence."

As early as April 22, Russia proposed a draft resolution on lifting sanctions for all countries in the world to fight against the pandemic. The core content is to ask developed countries to lift the sanctions on the sanctioned countries, so as to help those countries that are struggling with the pandemic. Unfortunately, the draft was rejected.
According to Russian media, countries that voted against the proposal believed that it harms the interests of their countries. Russian Vice Foreign Minister vishnin said in an interview with RIA Novosti that international acts of providing assistance to countries suffering from sanctions and lack of health system should not be politicized.
