State Grid Works to Ensure Power Supply for Harbin Asian Winter Games

2025-02-12

On February 7 the 9th Asian Winter Games opened in Harbin, dubbed China's "Ice City". To ensure the success of this largest winter sports event in Asia, State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) has built a comprehensive power supply support system, integrating innovative technology and people-centered services, to provide stable green energy for the Games.

Green Energy Empowerment: Pioneering 100% Renewable Power for the Asian Winter Games

State Grid is the first energy supplier in the history of the Asian Winter Games to power the construction and renovation of all venues and supporting facilities, as well as test events and official competitions with green electricity. Since July 2024, the company has conducted 11 green power transactions for the Asian Winter Games, delivering a total of 56.76 million kWh of renewable electricity. It invested more than 800 million yuan in 170 grid enhancement projects to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted delivery of green electricity to every competition venue.

Smart Innovations: Ensuring a Reliable Power Supply

From intelligent robotic inspection dogs performing 360-degree infrared temperature checks inside cable tunnels to multi-rotor drones conducting automated, high-precision inspections of substations, cutting-edge technologies are playing a crucial role for the Games. At the heart of this system is a digital command platform, functioning as a smart nerve center that provides real-time monitoring of all power supply equipment and ensures precise operational control. With these advanced innovations, State Grid guarantees stable power supply throughout the event.

Human-Centered Services: Bringing Warmth to the “Ice City”

At Harbin’s iconic landmarks, including Central Street and Harbin Ice and Snow World, State Grid has introduced mobile "power banks," which have quickly become popular stops for visitors. Launched by State Grid Harbin Power Supply Company, this initiative helps alleviate battery anxiety for tourists by offering free charging services. Additionally, these stations provide emergency medical supplies and other convenience services, blending practicality with hospitality to enhance the visitor experience.

As the Games reach its peak, State Grid remains committed to ensuring the brilliance of this winter spectacle. By combining technological strength with thoughtful service, it continues to power the Asian Winter Games with efficiency, reliability, and a commitment to sustainability.
